Ties
2021
Work exhibited at the independent cultural space “La Otra” in Xalapa, Veracruz, in 2022.
Curator: Manuel Sanilas Arellano
The complete series comprises 20 pieces.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, time became one of the great uncertainties we faced. We wondered when it would end and if we would survive, while our closest human contact became our family ties.
Through these photographs, I present an intimate and collective perspective on the health crisis that disrupted our lives, forcing us to reconsider our relationships, emotions, and how we inhabit both the family unit and the wider world. The images reflect on the vulnerability shared during confinement by taking the domestic space as a refuge and setting. They reframe everyday life in an effort to help us to reconcile with ourselves, with others, and with our environment. They capture a suspended moment in time when daily life was transformed by pain, uncertainty and the necessity of finding new ways to coexist.
